When the app is open, CoughPro passively listens for peak sounds, and sends those, in privacy-protecting half-second snippets, to the cloud, where they are analyzed. Sounds that are highly likely to be coughs, based on Hyfe’s model that has been trained on millions of similar sounds, are sent back to your device where they appear on your cough chart.
On your chart you can see how many times you cough and when your cough is occurring. You can view your coughs by day, week, or month, or set the time frame manually. You can start and stop the app any time you want and you can set a reminder to turn it on before bed or upon waking to ensure you are recording the times of most interest to you.
The Triggers function allows you to keep a diary of stimuli that may be linked to your cough, such as eating, laughing, dust, or pollen. This can give you a better understanding of your cough dynamics, enabling you to better manage it and your respiratory health.
You will also see a bar with numbers below the dates.
These show you:
On the left side: The frequency of coughs per hour for the day in question. The frequency is only calculated for hours you are tracking. In the example above 24 coughs divided by 10 hours and 11 minutes of tracking equals an average of 2.4 coughs per hour. As with the number of coughs tracked, the arrows up and down show you whether your cough frequency is increasing or decreasing from the previous day.
In the center: How many coughs have been counted on the date you are looking at and whether that is an increase or decrease from the preceding day of tracking. The number of arrows corresponds to the rate of increase or decrease. Three up arrows indicate a large percentage increase from the day before and one up arrow a smaller increase. Three down arrows indicate a large decrease from the day before and one down arrow a smaller decrease.
On the right: How many hours of cough tracking you have done on this day. In the image above, there has been 10 hours and 11 minutes of tracking. There is a single arrow pointing up or down to show whether that is an increase or decrease in the amount of time tracked from the preceding day.
In the daily view chart you will also see any Triggers you have associated with today and you can add additional triggers.
To change the view from daily to weekly, monthly, or yearly, or manual setting, click on the calendar icon near the top-right of the screen.
Then choose which time frame you would like to view. For weekly, monthly, yearly, and manual settings, you will see the same three statistics across the top: cough frequency per hour, number of coughs counted, and the total number of hours counted. The trend arrows are the same as on the daily view.
To use the manual data setting, you will need to set the start data and end date yourself. Then the cough chart will display the data from the period you’ve selected. The earliest date you can choose for this view is the first day you started using CoughPro.
To get to the cough list view, click on the toggle on the top-right corner of the main screen.
When in list view, you will see the hours of the day with the number of coughs tracked in each hour
From the cough list view, you can identify triggers linked to the coughs from a particular hour.
You can also listen to individual coughs by clicking on the play button next to each cough.
In addition, you can press on each individual cough and slide it to the left to bring up two menu options: “Not my cough” and “Not a cough.”
In the event that someone close to you coughed that your phone microphone recorded, you can delete that cough. CoughPro will no longer count that cough as one of yours and your statistics will be adjusted accordingly.
In the event that a sound which is not a cough has been detected and misclassified as a cough (a dog bark or a hammer sound nearby, for example), you can click on “Not a cough” and CoughPro will no longer count that cough as one of yours and your statistics will be adjusted accordingly.
If cough tracking gets interrupted–such as when you place or receive a phone call–when the interruption is finished you will see a pop-up screen informing you that tracking has stopped. It will give you the opportunity to resume tracking by clicking the “resume tracking” button.
Sometimes there is a delay in data processing either because your internet connection has been interrupted. When this happens you will see the message “There are unprocessed sounds.” When you see this message you can click on “upload now” to send them for analysis and you will see the progress bar along with the message, “uploading cough data.” When the sounds have been uploaded, processing will happen and your coughs will be shown on your cough chart shortly.
On occasion “traffic” on the journey to the cloud and back can delay posting of coughs on your chart for several minutes or up to a few hours in rare instances. Do NOT worry, your data is safe and will appear before long!
You can choose to set CoughPro to track continuously, 24/7, or set up a schedule to track at night or another time of particular interest.
To change your schedule settings, click on the slider icon on the top-left corner of the screen.
